Geog291: Western Regional Field Study: Berlin and Prague

Travel Information: Course Information:
During this 10-day study tour, we will travel from Berlin to Prague, with intermediate stops in Dresden. Our travel adventure will combine group museum visits, walking tours, and meetings with local experts, with ample time for personal explorations and discovery.

Berlin, the city where East meets West, is a new center of political power in the European Union. Dresden offers its own special charms and secrets.  Home of the terrible retaliatory fire-bombing of 1945, it is now experiencing a renaissance as a capital of industry and innovation.  Our last stop is perhaps the most storied city in Europe, the magical realm of Prague. Here one can walk the streets and see history unfold through many eras, from the medieval Castle District to the Prague Spring of 1968, to the Velvet Revolution and the end of communist rule.

PRELIMINARY SYLLABUS
AVAILABLE SOON

We will be exploring many themes through this journey: politics and history; culture (as seen in art, music, literature, and food), and more. Additionally we will be encouraging you to find and execute your own personal plan of discovery to pursue individual interests and to find and share new ways to bring them to the classroom.
